TIM " THE RIPPER" OWENS TO GUEST ON NEW AVANTASIA!!

Powerhouse heavy metal singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR) will guest on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.

Commented Tobias: "I had this pretty heavy riff monster and I remembered a JUDAS PRIEST live album with 'the new singer' on vocals. I listened again and when I heard him sing 'Metal Gods' and 'Painkiller', I knew that this was the voice I so desperately needed for the song.

"Tim is a cool guy and a scream machine. He makes his voice spit out the most aggressive high notes I have ever heard while fully controlling it.

"I am so proud of the heaviest metal tune I have written so far, and Tim has turned a good heavy metal song into the ultimate heavy metal monster!"

A photo of Owens in the studio during the AVANTASIA recording sessions can be viewed below.

AVANTASIA's forthcoming album will feature additional guest appearances by Klaus Meine (SCORPIONS), Jorn Lande (MASTERPLAN, ARK, MILLENIUM, VAGABOND, THE SNAKES) and acclaimed drummers Eric Singer (KISS, ALICE COOPER, BLACK SABBATH) and Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, ANGRA, SIEGES EVEN).

Regarding the new AVANTASIA album's musical direction, Sammet recently stated, "We've got quite many songs, and it ranges from epic ballads to metal opera. From pop to hard rock to folk to speed metal. My best friend, who co-wrote the story of 'The Metal Opera' back then, just listened to some of the tracks and he said that it will blow people away and enchant AVANTASIA fans and it will surely piss people off . . . It's just enchanting music. And these days honest and good music is kind of offending to some, that's pretty sick, isn't it? But as long as I get goose bumps hearing majestic music, I do not really care if I am fashionable or not."

The most recent album from AVANTASIA, "The Scarecrow", was one of the 20 best-selling albums in whole Europe during the fourth week of January 2008, according to a press release.

"The Scarecrow" was released on January 25, 2008 as a standard CD as well as rare picture (double) vinyl. It features a long list of guest musicians, including Bob Catley, ex-MASTERPLAN frontman Jorn Lande, ex-HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske, Alice Cooper, KISS drummer Eric Singer, SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker and GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen. The album produced a Top 10 German hit single, "Lost In Space", and entered the national charts in 15 countries, with the CD landing in the Top 10 in four countries.

He was so cool and gave me over to Paul Quinn to chat for a min... He was like, "Oh the American girl at the Pre-show!!" Hahaa! I make an impression!!! I am telling you I am still shaking like a leaf...I LOVE SAXON so much!!! Crazy that I posted a reply to this and then I get this call and was talking to them like two minutes later!!!....How random is that?????? Freakin awesome!!! Thank you Taylor and SAXON!!! ALL THOSE WORDS:

GUS G TO BE OZZY'S NEW GUITARIST!!!

As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on August 3, Randall Amplifiers now appears to have confirmed via its Facebook page that 28-year-old Greek guitarist Gus G. (FIREWIND) has been tapped to play with OZZY OSBOURNE at the closing concert of this year's BlizzCon, which will take place August 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center. However, it should be noted that this information has not yet been corroborated by anyone in the Osbourne camp and should be treated as a rumor only.

In addition to his current axe-slinging duties with FIREWIND, Gus (real name: Kostas Karamitroudis) — who has an endorsement deal with Randall — has played in MYSTIC PROPHECY, NIGHTRAGE, ARCH ENEMY and DREAM EVIL.

It is not presently clear who will sit behind the kit for OZZY OSBOURNE's performance at BlizzCon, since his longtime drummer, Mike Bordin, is currently on the road in Europe with the reunited FAITH NO MORE.

Ozzy told Classic Rock magazine in a June 2009 interview that he was on the lookout for a new guitar player, apparently to replace Zakk Wylde. He also indicated that he was auditioning a guitarist from Greece, but declined to give further details.

As for why he wanted to break away from Wylde, who has played with Ozzy on and off since 1988, Ozzy said, "I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like (Wylde's band) BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?"

In an interview with a Eugene, Oregon radio station on July 29, Zakk slammed Ozzy over his Classic Rock comments, saying in part, "I've gotta be honest with you. The boss hasn't even given me a phone call, so I mean... I'm just like... I don't know what's going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? . . . I mean, it's like, dude, you don't wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn't give a rat's ass. Like I'm gonna get all jealous or whatever. But you know what?! Man up and give me a phone call and tell me what the hell's going on."

Wylde's answer after that abruptly turned into an obscenity-filled rant directed at Ozzy that had to be heavily bleeped by the station.

The former BLACK SABBATH singer has been working on his latest solo album at his home studio in Los Angeles, He said that Wylde had recorded material for the project, but added, "I don't know if I want to use it."

The largest event of its kind, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft game universes and the global player communities surrounding them. At the closing ceremony on August 22, Ozzy will unleash a thunderous spectacle of rock to put the Lich King in his place and cement his own title as the one true Prince of Darkness.

MINDFLOW: NEW CD

Formed in 2003, the Brazilian band MindFlow built a massive following back home, on the strength of two hit releases, 2004's "Just the Two of Us…Me and Them" and 2006's "Mind Over Body" and it quickly became apparent that MindFlow is not your predictable rock band. Case in point, an ‘alternate reality game’ (ARG) that was tied in with their sophomore effort, which included an intense storyline that involves an imaginary serial killer. (www.mindflow.com.br/followyourinstinct).

And the quintet has already in its story 4 tours abroad, having played in countries like South Korea, Norway, Belgium, England, Spain, Canada and United States.

MindFlow's new album, Destructive Device, is more than just an album packed with socially critical ideology. It is a project boiling over with aggressive lyrics and themes.

The device is one of the clues, the piece of a puzzle that lead to the discovery of an intricately woven web of intrigue. While preserving the band's musical style and direction, the tracks take on a more classic form without losing the band’s signature style, mixing young, modern and innovative lyrics with the musical power and excellence of its members.

Destructive Device was produced by Ben Grosse (Marilyn Mason, Slipknot, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust) and was recorded and mixed both in Brazil and Los Angeles (The Mix Room).

Rodrigo Hidalgo (guitar) was interviewed by the ProgPower USA 2009 crew.
MindFlow will be playing in Atlanta/GA at the festival on September 11th.

JORN REVIEW: LIVE IN FREDRIKSTAD

REVIEW BY LARS(ARAN) FROM FREDRIKSTAD,NORWAY 8/01/09

I have not slept more than 1.5 hours since i started my 6 hour drive to Fredrikstad yesterday, but last night was so awesome that i need to get my feelings "down on paper" before getting more sleep. Razz

Nøisom gård is the whereabouts of a motorcycle club in Fredrikstad, located in an industrial area of town, but still with some population since the show needed to be finished around 11 pm. All though Jorn played for like 20 mins over the time. Also worth to mention this was a gig taking place in a huge tent outside the clubhouse so i guess the sound carried a long way.

This was the 8th time seeing Jorn live and as i said to them last night, this is the best performance to date. It was a very tight band on stage, they had great fun playing and the crowd had a great time. Jørn interacted with the crowd in his usual manor and with great humor. Not to mention the set list which i found truly great. This was obviously Jorn's homeground and he was making jokes about his grand grand grand parents coming from a place called....Lande, close to the nearby town Sarpsborg. Also used the time in between songs to tell how it was to grow up between the mountains in Rjukan which he said inspired him to make a song like "Man Of The Dark".

Myself, i had a great time, even without having a beer which i like to enjoy when going to concerts. I also hooked up with Destiny and we plus one other guy got interviewed by the local paper and it will be in Mondays edition. Will try to get it posted when the story is done and i have received the pdf file from the paper.
I also met quite a few forum and myspace friends for the first time this night and Tore also introduced me to his mom. Smile
There was also one person in the audience that also use to be on stage, Sid Ringsby were the and watched the show with his family.

So..the set list. Think some of you might like it and you'll see why. 4 songs from Spirit Black were done.

Soul Of The Wind

Shadow People

Stormcrow

Spirit Black

Man Of The Dark

The Inner Road

Rock And Roll Angel

Tungur Knivur

Tore solo

Blacksong

Road Of The Cross

Willy solo

War Of The World

By this time they were 15 mins over the playing time, but were allowed to do one more song and as extra extra song.

Are You Ready

There will always be some that might not even find this set list up to their wishes or standard, but to me..i loved it.

JUDAS PRIEST & WHITESNAKE #2

Judas Priest & Whitesnake

Doug Aldrich of Whitesnake.

David Coverdale give Las Vegas his best shot.

It has been almost three decades since I first caught Judas Priest and Whitesnake in concert. Whitesnake was opening for Jethro Tull and I don't recall who Judas Priest was with. I do remember that I came away impressed with the vocal abilities of both David Coverdale and Rob Halford. These two men helped their bands reach the top. Halford's scream has never been much of a problem but Coverdale has had his share of troubles. David had to cancel the previous show in Phoenix because of laryngitis. How will he handle tonights show at The Thomas & Mack in Las Vegas?

Coverdale and his band Whitesnake sounded good on the first two numbers "BEST YEARS" and "BAD BOYS". Whitesnake still sounded good but David was more miss then hit. The down slide started on "LOVE AIN'T NO STRANGER" his voice just wasn't strong enough to handle the notes.

"SLOW AN' EASY" was the victim of the same unevenness. "LAY DOWN YOUR LOVE" featured some white hot fretwork by guitarists Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach. This gave David a few minutes to rest as this guitar duo let it loose. Coverdale returned and did a respectable job on "IS THIS LOVE".

K. K. & Glen at their best.

Rob Halford Still sounds great.

Bassist Uriah Duffy and drummer Chris Frazier added a fat bottom on "GIVE ME ALL YOUR LOVE". One of the bands biggest hits "HERE I GO AGAIN" kept these fans happy". Whitesnake put the show to bed with "IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT" as their loyal fans cheered them on. Hopefully Coverdale will be back up to par soon.

Judas Priest was next to take the stage with the hard hitting "RAPID FIRE" as their fans roared the arrival of their heroes. Guitarist K. K. Downing & Glen Tipton traded wild leads on "METAL GODS". Singer Rob Halford's voice was stronger as ever on the classic "BREAKING THE LAW".

Priest kept flying high with "GRINDER" as the crowd went nuts. Drummer Scott Travis and bassist Ian Hill put the heavy in heavy metal on "UNITED". The band steamrolled the crowd with "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE OLD TO BE WISE" as we all went crazy. Fan favorite "LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT" always has the fans singing along.

Ian Hill helps drive Priest.

Halford is the man.

The band upped the intensity on "THE RAGE". ON "STEELER" the group sounded like it was 1979 all over again. The guys finished up their classic BRITISH STEEL album with "THE RIPPER" with Downing and Tipton at it again with their great team work.

"PROPHECY" from their under appreciated CD NOSTRADAMUS was received warmly by the crowd. "HELL PATROL" showed that these metal masters are still on top of their game. They finished up their set with a killer version of "VICTIM OF CHANGES" much to the fans delight.

Judas Priest returned quickly as Halford rode his Harley on stage for "FREEWHEEL BURNING". Joan Baez' "DIAMONDS & RUST" got the heavy metal treatment only Priest could do. They followed that with one of their biggest hits "YOU GOT ANOTHER THING COMING" as we all cheered our heroes one last time.

We would like to thank Jen for all her help.

Lacuna Coil, Kill Hannah & Seventh Void

Lacuna Coil, Kill Hannah & Seventh Void
@House of Blues 7-24-09

Andrea Ferro of Lacuna Coil at The House of Blues Las Vegas. Cristina Scabbia leads Lacuna Coil into battle.

Lacuna Coil has made many tour stops in Vegas but it was always as a opening act. So tonight will be different because they will be playing their first headlining show in Las Vegas at the House of Blues. Helping them out on this tour will be Chicago's Kill Hannah and Seventh Void who's members include Johnny Kelly & Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative. This looks like it will be a good night.

Seventh Void got the night off to a good start with singer Kenny Hickey. His voice sounded great. The band sounds like a darker more dangerous and soulless version of Velvet Revolver. They did a good job with the title track of their debut CD "HEAVEN IS GONE". They ripped through their short set and finished up with "DESCENT" as the fans got a nice treat.

Kill Hannah knows how to keep the fun in rock n roll. Singer/guitarist Mat Devine worked the crowd up with "NEW YORK CITY SPEED". Another good number was "ACID RAIN" which lead into "BLEED POISON BLOOD". Kill Hannah continued with an ode to their hometown "WELCOME TO CHICAGO MOTHERF**KERS". They ended their fun high energy set with "LIPS LIKE MORPHINE" as they seemed to add a few new fans in the process.

Lacuna Coil hit the stage with the song "SURVIVE" the first track off their latest CD SHALLOW LIFE. Singers Cristina Scabbia & Andrea Ferro sounded great as they headed into "FRAGMENTS OF FAITH". The group rocked on with "CLOSER" as their fans went wild. The setlist and band were tight as they poured it on with "DAYLIGHT DANCER".

Cristina.

Scabbia wailed on "I'M NOT AFRAID" then they took the crowd "TO THE EDGE" and we loved it. There was no letting up with "SWAMPED". The band pushed on with "FRAGILE" as the seemed to be hitting their stride.

Marco adds some bass lines.

The band picked up momentum with "ENTWINED" as the end of their set was getting near. Cristina & Andrea let it loose on "I WON'T TELL YOU" as the fans cheered their every move. The crowd went crazy from the first notes of one of their best songs "HEAVEN'S A LIE". They finished up their red hot set with the Depeche Mode classic "ENJOY THE SILENCE". The fans cheered them on as Lacuna Coil left the stage.

The band returned promptly with the perfect song "NOT ENOUGH" because none of this crowd had enough. The fans were held "SPELLBOUND" as the group thrilled us at every turn. Lacuna Coil held court with one last number "OUR TRUTH" to show us one last time just how good this band is live.

We would like to thank Mark for all his help.

PRIEST & WHITESNAKE

THOMAS AND MACK LAS VEGAS, NV 8/08/09

Judas Priest has been my all time fave band since 198 1 when I saw them on MTV in the "Headin' Out To The Highway" video. Their music got me through the tough times as a teenager and I feel that the music saved my life. They were always there to bring me up and make me feel empowered to get through anything and to take on anyone! To this day the Metal Gods keep bringin' on the music that makes you feel powerful and strong! Maybe that's why "Blood Red Skies" is my all time fave that I have never seen live but would love to see one day.
(Photo from before VH1 Rock Honors when I won to meet Priest at KOMP Radio:)

I have seen many Priest show's but never seen them in their prime back in the day. The first time I actually got to see them was when Ripper was in the band and even then they were massive!! What a great replacement he was at the time but I am so happy to have Rob back in the band!! He is the original and never can be replaced ever again.
I was stoked that Diane and I were able to buy the almost entire front row in the center at the Thomas & Mack Arena that used to the the "only" place to see arena shows back in the day. They have a new policy that tickets are always $25 no matter where they are. So we were fortunate enough to get the best seats in the house and for that I am grateful!! Three people actually backed out on the tickets I got for them but was happy to get my good friend Jimi to come with and my roomie Don to be up with me at our own "private show".

Whitesnake opened the show and I havent seen them since the Girls, Girls, Girls, Crue show way back when and was happy that they were going to play as Coverdale had some issues with his voice the last few days and had to cancel the show's.

We were fortunate enough to have him sing for us, even though he was close to blowing out the vocal chords yet again. We were just happy to see him perform. He did the best he could and I wasn't upset a bit. His band included Reb Beach from Winger fame,

Doug Aldrich(Holy crap that man is hot and can he play!!),

Uriah Duffy........

Chris Frazier on drums and Timothy Drury on keys. The set-list was cut short due to the fact that David Coverdale was having issues with his voice still but it was still a killer set. They started with Best Years, Bad Boys,Love Aint No Stanger, and rounded that off with Slow and Easy. These guys rocked the place down with a couple of guitar solos and that gave me a chance to get a drink. At least there wasn't a drum solo this time which bores me to tears every time(Unless its Zoltan from Vince Neils band as that guy is insane!!)

They blew me away with Lay down your love which is a new song and then the ballad Is This Love. Then they played the old fave's, Gimme All Your Love and Here I Go Again and finished out the set with In the Still Of the Night which killed!!! This was still a kick ass set and I really was glad to have seen them...kudo's for Coverdale for giving it his best!!

After we got to get a short break we were getting all revved up for the Mighty Priest!!! They put up a huge curtain that read:

That got us all the more pumped up for the beginning of the coolest set ever from "Brittish Steel" one of the greatest albums of all time!!! This was indeed going to blow our minds!!!
I got my place in the photo pit with all my fellow photog's including Val Nerres and Kimberly. I was shaking like a leaf because this was my "First" time shooting Priest officially in the pit!! I was so excited! All my friends at the barricade were rooting me on and when the curtain came down and Priest came out with an explosion and screaming into Rapid Fire, I started to freakin cry and that makes it hard to shoot a photo!! Lol!

After my three songs in the pit which included Metal Gods and Breakin the Law, I climbed outta the pit and jumped in beside Dona and Jimi and proceeded to rock the hell out!!

Grinder and United was incredible as I dont think I have heard any of these songs live except for the "hits".They slid right into their biggest hit,Livin After Midnight and then kicked my ass with The Rage!!! That was sweet!

(My money shot!!!!)

Then we heard the roar of the Harley Davidson and out comes Rob Halford, The Metal God with his trusty steed and they roared into Freewheel Burnin', not Hell Bent For Leather like they usually do, which was a surprise.

Diamonds and Rust was next and then the laser lights came on all strong and green and they flew into the last song You Got Another Thing Coming!!They blew the roof off the arena with that final song!!

That was so amazing!! After 30+ years of Metal these guys stay true to the music and to the fans!! This was my fave Priest show that I have ever seen!! I hope they keep doing what they do and bring us what we crave....Heavy Freakin Metal!!!!
